Additional Instructor Profiles
MJS is excited to add Cheryl as an additional instructor. Cheryl has a very impressive background as a nurse and educator. Celebrating her 40th anniversary as a nurse this year, Cheryl has gained valuable clinical experiences in both adult and pediatric patient populations. As a new graduate she began working on a medical/surgical adult care unit before transitioning to that of the newborn nursery. Her love of children drove her to pursue opportunities in the neonatal field as she followed her husband in their re-location to Memphis Tennessee. While in Memphis she was invited to become an instructor at Baptist School of Nursing. During her tenure at Baptist she became qualified as an instructor for the American Heart Association. She remained at Baptist for several years before yielding to her own academic interests and concurrently teaching and studying to obtain a Master's Degree in Public Administration. Her MPA opened additional opportunities in administrative roles including Assistant Director of Nursing, Staff Development, Risk Manager, Utilization Review Manager, and Quality Improvement Manager at a Psychiatric Hospital before returning to the pediatric world as a Director of the Neuroscience Unit at a local pediatric facility that is rated as one of the top 10 in America. Cheryl then elected to step back and focus on her role as "Mom" for her children. During this time she undertook a new venture as owner and proprietor of her own business designed to provide CPR instruction to daycare facilities and physician offices. She continued to grow her business as her children grew. She was named as Regional then National faculty for the American Heart Association. When her children were in middle and high school she returned to clinical nursing becoming an oncology nurse with a local adult hematology/oncology practice with multiple office locations located throughout the Mid-South region. She remained with the practice and with her own small business until the children finished high school and left for college. She then again answered the call to return to academia becoming a education specialist for a large hospital system in Memphis in clinical simulation. She was the coordinator for the AHA training site housed within the system before leaving to undertake a similar role for a large university. She became increasingly interested in the role of simulation in education which led her to become a certified simulation educator through the Society of Simulation in Healthcare. As such she became increasingly aware of the role simulation had in all facets of healthcare education motivating her to earn a Doctorate in Education. During her coursework she earned her second Master's Degree - this one in Nursing. Over the past several years she has been a professor on the faculty of a graduate program in PA studies where she serves as the Director of Clinical Simulation before joining another local University where she serves as the Director of Interprofessional Education and Clinical Simulation. In 2022 she was awarded the Daisy Award for Outstanding Nursing Faculty. CONGRATULATIONS CHERYL!
